RARE VARIANT CAMBRIDGE CLEAR GLASS # 2933 CUT POLISHED HEX OPEN SALT CELLAR DIPPlease Note: This item is now free shipping!!!
This is an interesting little open salt cellar; it has a hexagon shaped bowl with a large eight-point star in every panel and has been cut and polished on every facet.
I believe this piece was made by the Cambridge Glass Company, formerly of Cambridge, Ohio, and is a variant of their # 2933 pattern salt cellar.
This is a gorgeous piece of high quality hand-made and American made pressed elegant glass that has been enhanced by being cut and polished on every facet.
It is made in a crystal or clear colored glass.
It is incredible to me the amount of work it took to produce this little salt.
First it was pressed in a mold with the six eight-point stars in the sides and the twelve-point star on the underside. Then it was ground and polished (cut glass) on all six sides and both the top and bottom.
Then it was further ground and polished on all of the long edges on both the top and the bottom; that is twelve more places.
What an incredibly high-quality piece of Cambridge Glass.
I am gradually selling my salt cellar and individual nut dish collection that at one time was over 1,800 pieces.
This particular piece has been in my collection since 1985.
Specifically, I believe this this piece to be a variant of the Cambridge Glass Pattern # 2933 Salt Dip, which is pictured on page 110 in the book
The Cambridge Glass Co. Cambridge, Ohio: A Reprint Of Parts Of Old Company Catalogs Book I
by Mary, Lyle And Lynn Welker.
This same pattern salt cellar is also pictured in the book
5,000 Open Salts: A Collector’s Guide
by William Heacock and Patricia Johnson as Photo # 2874.
The differences between the Cambridge Glass # 2933 salt and this one are the eight-point star which is much larger and differently shaped (see the last photo and just to be clear there is only one salt for sale here – the one on the right in this photo) and that this one has a twelve-point star on the underside where the Cambridge # 2933 salt has a fourteen-point star. The salt in this sale is the only one like this I have ever seen and I don’t believe it is pictured in any of the salt cellar books.

Age and Condition
The piece dates to circa 1910-1920.
This piece is in very good to
excellent original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
There are a few extremely tiny flea bites (very minor roughness).
This is consistent with and exactly what I would expect to see on a piece of glass of this age.
Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs.
Really in very nice condition for its age.
Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
Approximate Dimensions
About 1.75” (4.4 cm) across the points and about 1.5625” (4 cm) across the flat panels and sits about .75” (1.9 cm) off the table.
